PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recycling an image forming material, capable of obtaining high image quality of a printed image and attaining energy saving. SOLUTION: In the method of recycling an image forming material, a first generation printed image is obtained via a toner image holding process, wherein a toner image formed of toner particles is held in a toner holder layer formed on an image supporting substrate; and separated toner particles separated from the first generation printed image via a separation process are supplied for formation of a second generation printed image formed in a similar manner. If particle-shape factors, each given by an expression (a minimum diameter of a projected image/a maximum diameter of the projected image) of the toner particles used for the toner image holding process for forming the first generation printed image, the toner particles after the toner image holding process, and the separated toner particles separated by the separation process are represented by A, B, and C, respectively; relational expression (1): 0.9≥B/A≥0.1, and relational expression (2): 1≥C/A≥0.9 are satisfied.
