PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a thermoplastic resin composition which can be made to contain a great deal of plant fibers and has a sufficient fluidity when used for injection molding or the like. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing a thermoplastic resin composition which contains a thermoplastic resin (a polypropylene-based resin, especially a combined use of a polypropylene-based resin and an acid-modified polypropylene-based resin), and a plant fiber (kenaf fiber or the like), in which if the sum total is 100 mass%, the plant fiber is 50-95 mass%, comprises a cutting process of cutting a raw material fiber, a mixing process of kneading and mixing the thermoplastic resin and the cut fibers, with the cut fibers passing through a screen having an opening of 0.5-2 mm in the cutting device and being of a straight form.
