By providing a method for preventing even the infiltration of raw material for a crucible into inner surface of the crucible, the entry of foreign bodies in the fused quartz crucible can be reliably avoided until the crucible is actually used, and the crucible can be handled in an uncontaminated state. Disclosed is a lid (3) mounted on an opening (2) of a fused quartz crucible (1), wherein the lid (3) has a flange area (4) that hermetically attaches to the outer edge (2a) of the aforementioned opening (2).
