PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer causing no large lowering in printing quality even when carrying out high-speed printing. SOLUTION: When printing density is set to 180 dpi and the temperature of a thermal head 41 is below t5, low-density expansion printing is performed to form a dot 92 thermally transferred across two printing lines of 360 dpi, on a surface layer tape 31 by conveying the surface layer tape 31 and an ink ribbon 33 for two printing line parts of 360 dpi in the heating state of a corresponding heating element 41a based on line print data for one line part.
