<p>New aryl hydroxylamines of formula: (where X is Hal, NO2, alkyl or H; n is 1 or 2; R is alkyl, Ph, Cl-Ph, or NO2-Ph; and R1 is 1-4C alyl, Ph or Cl-Ph) are selective herbicides active against grasses of the sub-family Festucaceae and annual dicotyledonous weeds of the family Polygonaceae esp. in tomato, cucumber, sunflower, millet and sugar beet culture. Prepn. is by rection of N-carboalkyl (or aryl)-oxy-N-arylhydroxylamines e.g. Ph-N-COOR1 with alkyl or aryl isocyanates R-NCO in a dry solvent at -25 to +50 degrees. Specifically claimed is O-(N-m-Cl-phenylcarbamoyl)-N-carboisopropoxy-N-m-Cl-phenylhydroxy- lamine (X = m-Cl, R = m-Cl-phenyl, R1 = i-propyl). (Commercial name Azylat-5).</p> |
