PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tires having incorporated therein carbon black and silica that exhibits enhanced abrasion resistance without deteriorating extrusion processability. SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of a diene rubber containing at least 10 wt.% of an aromatic vinyl/conjugated diene copolymer having a glass transition temperature of -25°C or lower and, incorporated therewith, 0.1-10 pts.wt. of a phenolic compound bearing at least one alkylthiomethyl group, 5-50 pts.wt. of carbon black having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N<SB>2</SB>SA) of 100-140 m<SP>2</SP>/g and 30-90 pts.wt. of silica, with the sum of carbon black and silica being 40-120 pts.wt.
