<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine with a two-stage supercharger for actualizing smooth changeover from the high-pressure stage supercharger to the low-pressure stage supercharger. <P>SOLUTION: A diesel engine 1 includes the high-pressure stage supercharger 8 and the low-pressure stage supercharger 9 connected in a two-stage series. A high-pressure-stage turbine 8a of the high-pressure stage supercharger 8 has an inlet and an outlet connected to each other through first an second bypass exhaust pipes 12a, 12b arranged in parallel to each other and in which first and second valves 14a1, 14b1 are arranged, respectively. Each of the first and second valves 14a1, 14b1 and a rod 25a of an actuator 25 for opening and closing it are connected to each other via a link mechanism 26.
