<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoconductive element which can be controlled in resistance by controlling a depletion layer in a photoconductive layer. <P>SOLUTION: The photoconductive element includes: the photoconductive layer (1) for generating a carrier by the radiation of exciting light (5); a first electrode arranged on the photoconductive layer (1); a second electrode arranged on the photoconductive layer (1) while having a gap relative to the first electrode; and a third electrode (3). The third electrode (3) is disposed within a range to which an electric field by a voltage applied to the first and second electrodes (2) or an electric field by the radiation of a terahertz wave is extended.
