PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle map display and a method for controlling the device for suppressing map matching deviations in maps whose accuracies are different depending on areas. SOLUTION: The population of an area where a traveling vehicle travels is estimated by the number NU of oncoming vehicles, and an adjustment amount Y is set so as to change a threshold of a parameter for map matching according to the estimated population.
