PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for controlling the display opening/closing operation for a rear seat capable of avoiding the possibility that an occupant's head in the rear seat may knock up against a display for the rear seat when a driver applies a sudden brake to a vehicle if the occupant seated in the rear seat does not wear a seat belt when the vehicle is traveling. SOLUTION: The display opening/closing operation control device avoids the possibility that a head of an occupant is collided with a display 120 for a rear seat in an open state even if a vehicle in a traveling state is rapidly decelerated and the occupant's body in the rear seat is thrown forward by controlling the opening/closing position of the display 120 for the rear seat mounted on a ceiling surface in a cabin so that the display 120 for the rear seat is not in an open state so long as the occupant in the rear seat does not wear any seat belt in the traveling vehicle.
