METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR LOCATING MOBILE SUBSCRIBER STATION IN CDMA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for determining the current location of a mobile subscriber station with a high degree of accuracy using data available in an existing CDMA system.SOLUTION: The system specifies the geographic location of a subscriber station unit within a CDMA communication system. At least one base station transmits a spread spectrum signal with a chip code sequence unique to the base station. The subscriber station unit receives the signal from the base station and transmits a spread spectrum signal with a unique chip code sequence synchronized with the chip code sequence of the base station signal. The base station receives the signal from the subscriber station unit and compares the chip code sequence of the subscriber station unit signal with the chip code sequence transmitted by the base station to determine the location of the subscriber station unit.
