PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method which generate an overall high-resolution image, without degradation in quality being caused by steps in the image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus captures a first acquired image of a subject by using a first imaging unit. The apparatus captures a second acquired image of the subject using a second imaging unit whose optical axis overlaps with that of the first imaging unit. The apparatus obtains a ratio information which indicates composite ratio of the first acquired image and the second acquired image to the image components which is calculated, by using the resolution of the first imaging unit and a resolution of the second imaging unit to the given image components. The apparatus generates a composited image of the first acquired image and the second acquired image, by combining the given image components of the first acquired image and the given image components of the second acquired image, in accordance with the ratio information.
