PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate risk that a direction and an attachment position of a UV enhancer for irradiating ultraviolet rays for starting aid of a discharge lamp is changed to cause short-circuiting accidents, due to impact or vibration caused at transport of the lamp. SOLUTION: The UV enhancer 7A equipped with a pipe part 10 penetrating the center of an airtight vessel 3 in which rare gas such as argon gas is filled is fitted inside the pipe 10 at a position leaning toward one end side of an arc tube 2, in a way penetrating an electrode lead 5a protruded from a terminal of a sealing part 4a sealing that end side of the arc tube 2.
