PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet length measuring device capable of accurately measuring a sheet length in comparison with the case of measuring the sheet length based on the rotated amount of a rotor supported freely to move in a direction for coming close to or separating from a surface of a recording sheet. SOLUTION: The sheet length measuring device includes: a length measuring roll 101 accompanied by the conveyance of a paper sheet 150 in contact with the paper sheet 150 conveyed in a conveyance path; an encoder device 103 for detecting the rotated amount of the length measuring roll 101; a support member 107 supporting a rotary shaft 102 of the length measuring roll 101 by fixing it to a constant position; an opposite roll 120 arranged opposite to the length measuring roll 101 with a paper sheet 150 between the length measuring roll 101 so that the length measuring roll 101 is rotated accompanied by the conveyance of the paper sheet 150; and a swing arm 122 and a swing arm support member 124 supporting the opposite roll 120 freely to move in a direction coming close to or separating from the surface of the paper sheet 150.
