Payments for bills in Canada are typically received in one of three ways, namely a cheque by mail, an electronic payment using web/telephone banking, or a Pre-Authorized Debit. Of these three methods the receipt of a cheque by mail is the least efficient for the depositor due to the requirement to deliver the paper copy to the depository bank. This invention generates a more efficient Pre-Authorized Debit using a cheque as a source document authorizing the pre-authorized debit, and eliminates the need to transport the cheque to the depository bank.
