IMAGE DECODING APPARATUS, AND IMAGE DECODING METHOD AND PROGRAM FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decode an encoded stream of a stereo image by an existing decoding apparatus for monaural images.

SOLUTION: A data decoder 104 performs prediction decoding of a picture included in the encoded stream using a reference picture. A first DPB 116 holds a decoded image obtained by decoding a picture of a first image. A first reference list storage 113 holds index information of the decoded image set in the reference picture to be held in the first DPB 116. A second DPB 117 holds a decoded image obtained by decoding a picture of a second image. A second reference list storage 114 holds index information of the decoded image set in the reference picture to be held in the second DPB 117. A controller 110 refers to information showing a display order added to each picture included in the encoded stream to determine whether each picture is the one of the first image or the one of the second image.
