<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: if the position of the leading edge of a recording medium relative to a conveying belt varies depending on the presence or absence of a curl in the recording medium, when an image is transferred in a transfer nip section, the position of an image relative to the recording medium varies, resulting in displacement of the image. <P>SOLUTION: While a recording medium S is attracted to the conveying belt 45, the leading edge of the recording medium S is detected by a post-registration sensor SN. After the recording medium S is attracted to the conveying belt 45, a registration roller pair 75 is controlled such that the leading edge of an image and the leading edge of the recording medium S coincide.
