PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus by which shooting is easily done even in the midst of diving, and a desired image is obtained with a high possibility. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is equipped with: an imaging part for imaging a subject and generating image data of the subject; an operation input part for receiving input of an operation signal containing a release signal for instructing the imaging part to perform shooting; a storage part for storing information containing the image data generated by the imaging part; a state detecting part for detecting the state where the imaging part is underwater and shooting is done in a floating state, and that where the imaging part is underwater and shooting is done while changing a water depth, as the different ones; and a control part for switching a recording mode of the image data corresponding to the operation of the operation input part according to a state detection result by the state detecting part.
