PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor integrated element which can suppress connection loss of guided wave light without using a tapered region. SOLUTION: The semiconductor integrated element 1 includes a first semiconductor optical element S1 and a second semiconductor optical element S2. The first semiconductor optical element S1 includes a first mesa part M1 extending in a predetermined axial direction, an embedded layer 6, and a first adjusting layer A1 arranged between the first mesa part M1 and the embedded layer 6. The first mesa part M1 includes a first core layer 10. The first adjusting layer A1 extends from one end to other end of the first semiconductor optical element S1 in the predetermined axial direction while it is in contact with the first core layer 10. A refractive index of the first adjusting layer A1 is lower than a refractive index of the first core layer 10 and is higher than a refractive index of the embedded layer 6. The second semiconductor optical element S2 includes a second mesa part M2 extending in the predetermined axial direction. The second mesa part M2 includes a second core layer 20. A width of the first mesa part M1 is different from a width of the second mesa part M2. The first core layer 10 is connected to the second core layer 20 by a butt joint method.
