PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a glass thin film layer from being formed in regions of lead wires other than those surrounded by glass beads in a stem for a fluorescent lamp, and to release the molded product from the mold easily and surely in a press molding process of the glass beads in a method of manufacture thereof, regarding the stem for the fluorescent lamp constituted of the glass beads and the lead wires to airtightly penetrate through the glass beads. SOLUTION: The glass beads 1 are constituted of: a truncated cone shape-like large diameter part 2; a truncated cone shape-like small diameter part 3 raised from the upper surface 2a of the large diameter part 2 and having the bottom face 3b of which the diameter is smaller than that of the upper surface 2a; and a pair of truncated cone shape-like protrusions 4 raised from the upper surface 3a of the small diameter part 3 and having the bottom face 4b of which the diameter is smaller than that of the upper surface 3a, and they are integrally formed of a glass material.
