PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator which can demonstrate a stable ion performance utilizing a component installed at the surrounding of a discharge electrode without requiring a ground electrode. SOLUTION: The ion generator is provided with an ion generating part having discharge electrodes 1, 2 to generate ions and a support body 4 to support the discharge electrodes 1, 2, and a high voltage generating circuit 5 which supplies a high voltage to the ion generating part through a wiring 5a. The positive side discharge electrode 1 and the negative side discharge electrode 2 are respectively connected to the high voltage generating circuit 5 with their diodes 3-1, 3-2 in reverse direction. The high voltage generating circuit 5 is connected to a prescribed part of the support body 4 through the wiring 5b and is connected, in place of it, to a case 6 to house the ion generating part through the wiring 5c. By concentration of electric field from a connection point of a zero potential of the support body 4 to the needle tip of the discharge electrodes 1, 2, corona discharge is generated at the needle tip of the discharge electrodes 1, 2, and ions are generated stably.
