PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which can enhance the precision of a mounting position. SOLUTION: A grating coupler 20 is provided on a side surface 10B of a slider 10. A semiconductor laser element 40 is mounted on a mounting part 32 of a sub mount 30 made of silicon and a photo diode is provided as a photodetector 50 for a monitor. Conventionally separately mounting of an optical fiber and a photodetector on a slider via an optical element is made unnecessary and the precision of the mounting position is enhanced. The photodetector 50 may be disposed between the side surface 10B of the slider 10 and the semiconductor laser element 40 to receive light branched to an upper part from the grating coupler 20. A reflection film may be provided between the side surface 10B of the slider 10 and the semiconductor laser element 40 of the sub mount 30. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
