PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid jet apparatus which can prevent a backflow in the release of a tube pump. SOLUTION: This liquid jet apparatus comprises: a recording head 12 for emitting a jet of liquid; a capping means 13 for sealing a nozzle surface of the recording head; the tube pump 10 which applies negative pressure into the internal space of the capping means 13; and an ink suction control means 36 for controlling the operation of the tube pump 10. The tube pump 10 makes a tube member 20 pressed by the normal rotation of a rotating plate 25 and makes a pressing force against the tube member 20 released by the counterrotation of the rotating plate 25, when a roller member 21 is rolled along the inner periphery of the curved part of the tube member 20. A leak area LA is provided in the curved part of the tube member 20. The means 36 performs control so that a starting point position of the roller member 21 at the start of the counterrotation of the rotating plate 25 can be set in a prescribed area RA extending up to a predetermined acute angle in the direction of normal rotation while including the leak area LA.
