PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic imide electrolyte and an aromatic methylidine tris-sulfonyl electrolyte which are useful for electrochemical devices such as a battery and a fuel cell. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula (V): (Ar-SO<SB>2</SB>-)<SB>m</SB>-QH-(-SO<SB>2</SB>-R<SB>1</SB>)<SB>n</SB>, wherein Ar is an aromatic group derived from an aromatic compound; Q is C or N; every R<SB>1</SB>is independently selected from the group consisting of aliphatic groups and aromatic groups which are saturated, unsaturated, straight-chained, branched, cyclic, heteroatom-containing, polymeric, halogenated, fluorinated, or may be substituted or unsubstituted; at least one of R<SB>1</SB>comprises at least one high acidic group selected from the group consisting of sulfonic acid, carboxylic acid and phosphonic acid; m is 1 or more; n is 1 or more; m+n=2, when Q is N, and m+n=3, when Q is C.
