PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for improving a fault tolerance in a ring network. SOLUTION: A communication apparatus 12 of one embodiment includes a first IF card 20 for performing relay processing of a data frame to a first direction of the ring network, a second IF card 22 for performing relay processing of the data frame to a second direction of the ring network, a communication state determination unit 46 for monitoring a communication state ranging from the first IF card 20 to the second IF card 22, a block control unit 48 for allowing one of the first and second IF cards 20, 22 to set a new block point when the communication state is abnormal, and a ring protocol processing unit 40 for notifying the other communication apparatus composing the ring network of information for indicating the setting of the new block point and notifying a change in a block point in the ring network.
