PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric heater capable of maintaining a basic shape by restraining deformation of the whole heating body caused by softening during heating of the heating body arranged in an approximately vertical direction, and to provide a furnace having the electric heater. SOLUTION: The electric heater has the plate-shaped heating body 10 where current passages are formed by forming slits, and insulators 20 for supporting the heating body 10. The heating body 10 shows a convex shape toward a heating space S side between a pair of width-directional ends 13, 13 located in a width direction W along the slits. The heating body 10 is supported by respectively fixing the pair of width-directional ends 13, 13 on the insulator 20 so as to let the width direction W run along an approximately vertical direction. The electric heater has a support section 30 for preventing an intermediate section 10m from approaching an insulator 20 side by coming in contact with the intermediate section 10m of the heating body 10.
