PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve output and fuel consumption of an existing two-cycle engine. SOLUTION: In a method for modifying a two-cycle engine (1), an exhaust pipe (16) is removed from a cylinder exhaust port (15) of the existing two-cycle engine (1), a plate (18) having a through hole (17) having an opening area smaller than the cylinder exhaust port (15) is fastened in a state that a lower end of the through hole (17) is positioned in an upper side than a lower end of the cylinder exhaust port (15), and the exhaust pipe (16) is attached to the cylinder exhaust port (15). The lower end of the through hole (17) of the plate (18) is positioned in the upper side than a lower end of a cylinder suction port (14). The lower end of the through hole (17) of the plate (18) is positioned in the upper side than an upper end surface of a piston (11) in a bottom dead center of the piston (11). The upper end surface of the piston (11) in the bottom dead center of the piston (11) is positioned in the upper side than the lower end of the cylinder exhaust port (15).
