PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition containing a malic acid structure-containing amino compound having a satisfactory chelating ability in comparison with a conventional chelating agent, biodegradability, and compatibility with a surfactant. SOLUTION: This composition includes: a malic acid structure-containing amino compound represented by formula (1): formula (1) (where -R<SB>1</SB>represents -H, -CH<SB>3</SB>, -C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>, -CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>COOM, -CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>NH<SB>2</SB>, or -CH<SB>2</SB>OH; and Ms represent independently a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline earth metal atom, an ammonium ion, or an amine salt); and tartaric acid (salt thereof), in a molar ratio of 30:70 to 90:10.
