摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cBN cutting tool in which a hard coating layer exhibits excellent fusing resistance, chipping resistance, and wear resistance during the high-speed intermittent cutting of a high hardness material. SOLUTION: (a) In this surface-coated cBN cutting tool, a hard coating layer is formed on the base of the cBN cutting tool having such a honing shape that the honing width is within the range of 0.03-0.3 mm when viewed from the rake side and the honing angle relative to the rake is within the range of 10-35°, (b) the lower layer is formed of a (Ti, Al)N layer, and (c) the upper layer is formed of the alternately stacked layer of a (Ti, Al)N layer and a TiN layer. (d) The outermost layer of the upper layer forms a (Ti, Al)N layer in those areas other than the ridge part of the honing surface and the rake, and at the ridge part of the honing surface and the rake, the outermost layer is absent, and the alternately stacked layer cross sectional structure of the (Ti, Al)N layer and the TiN layer is formed so as to be exposed.
