PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform auto-focusing with good following performance by reducing the update period of AF evaluation value in the case of using a rotary shutter system. SOLUTION: The imaging device has: an imaging means 104 adapted to control the exposure of an image pick-up element 14 by a shutter system in which the timings of exposure start and exposure end are sequentially shifted at every scanning line; and a control means 50 adapted to compute an autofocus evaluation value based on an imaging signal obtained from a focus area located in an imaging screen of the imaging means, and to control the autofocus drive according to the autofocus evaluation value.
