<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber heat insulating material which can be manufactured by a simple manufacturing process and in which silica xerogel having a smaller pore than the air mean free path and a low bulk density is carried on a fiber mat; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The fiber heat insulating material is obtained by: mixing a gel raw material containing tetraalkoxysilane and monoalkyltrialkoxysilane in a molar ratio of 0.05 to 0.35:0.65 to 0.95, with a solvent containing 2 to 5 mol of alcohols and 3 to 6 mol of water with respect to 1 mol of the total amount of silane compounds of the gel raw material to hydrolyze the silane compounds in the gel raw material to produce a sol; impregnating the obtained sol in a fiber mat and gelating the sol; thereafter curing the resultant material to obtain a wet gel-carrying fiber mat; and drying the obtained wet gel-carrying fiber mat under normal pressure and/or reduced pressure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
