METHOD FOR TREATING CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent congestive heart failure by inhibiting the loss of cardiac function, and ideally by improving the cardiac function of those who have congestive heart failure or the risk thereof.

SOLUTION: The present invention features a method for treating or preventing congestive heart failure by administering a polypeptide containing an epidermal growth factor encoded by a neuregulin gene. The method is a method for treating or preventing the congestive heart failure in a mammal including a step of administering a polypeptide containing an epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) domain to the mammal, wherein the EGF-like domain is encoded by a neuregulin gene, and wherein the administration step includes administering an effective amount for treating or preventing the heart failure in the mammal.
