<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an address to be allocated from being overlapped in a communication system that adopts a VPN (Virtual Private Network). <P>SOLUTION: A communication system performs VPN connection between gateway devices, and uses VPN connection to perform communication between communication equipment under the respective gateways. Then, a first gateway of the communication system, from a second gateway, holds information on network addresses in subnetworks at least under the second gateway, and determines, from among a plurality of candidates, a virtual network address which does not overlap the network address of at least the second gateway.
