摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new lesion progression control gene of a plant, and a method for modifying disease resistance of the plant utilizing the gene. <P>SOLUTION: A field-resistant gene pi21 of rice plants is successfully isolated by a chain analysis and it is found out that the rice blast field resistance of the plant could be possibly modified by transferring the gene or inhibiting the expression thereof. Thus, the field resistance can efficiently be imparted to the plant. Furthermore, it becomes possible to select a rice plant having the field resistance against rice blast in an early stage. In addition, a variety having high resistance together with characteristics highly useful in practice can be raised by altering the tissue expression specificity or expression level of the gene associated with the field resistance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p>
