<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye for a photoelectric conversion element or the like capable of enhancing photoelectric conversion characteristics of a photoelectric conversion element. <P>SOLUTION: In the photoelectric conversion element provided with a dye-carrying metal oxide electrode in which the dye is carried on a metal oxide layer, a compound having a structure as expressed in general formula (1) is used as the dye. In formula (1), R1-R4 are straight chain type alkyl groups of a carbon number 4-20 independently, and can be the same with or different from one another.
