<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote-control system for a vehicle, which prolongs the life of a battery mounted in a portable machine. <P>SOLUTION: When the portable machine 100 receives an LF signal, intensity of an RF signal output from the portable machine 100 is set lower than in the case of the nonreception of the LF signal. When the received LF signal is an indoor LF one, the intensity of the RF signal is set lower than in the case of reception of an outdoor LF signal. Thus, when the portable machine 100 is positioned in a range in or near the vehicle, the intensity of the RF sinal output from the portable machine 100 becomes low, so as to make power consumption low.
