PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of preventing an occurrence of a failure such as an extinction and a blink of a discharge lamp without degrading its operability regardless of an ambient temperature even when deep dimming.SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device 10 includes: a lighting circuit 11 supplying electric power to the discharge lamp La and lighting it; a dimming circuit 12 generating a dimming signal 14 indicating the electric power supplied to the discharge lamp La according to an input signal 13 from the outside; and a control circuit 15 controlling the electric power supplied from the lighting circuit 11 to the discharge lamp La according to the dimming signal 14, wherein the dimming signal 14 indicating a rated lighting of the discharge lamp La is constant and the dimming signal 14 indicating a dimming lighting except the time of the rated lighting is varied depending on the temperature.
