PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter for discharge lamp capable of being applied to a discharge lamp with a glow bulb, and to provide a lighting system using the inverter.SOLUTION: This is an inverter 4 for a preheat type discharge lamp 2 equipped with a glow bulb 3, and is provided with: an oscillation circuit 40 which supplies a preheating current or a discharge current (hereafter called collectively a lamp current) to the discharge lamp 2; a lamp current measuring circuit 43 which measures the lamp current; a lamp condition measuring section 47 which measures a condition parameter indicating the condition of the discharge lamp 2; a discharge start determining section 42 which determines the starting time of discharge of the discharge lamp 2 based on the measuring value of the condition parameter and outputs a control start signal for starting control of the lamp current by the oscillation circuit 40 to the oscillation circuit 40; and a current control section 44 which receives the control start signal and, based on the measured value of the lamp current, generates a current control signal to control the oscillation circuit 40 and outputs to the oscillation circuit 40 so that the lamp current may become a prescribed value. |
