Provided is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of isolated adult cardiac stem cells and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier wherein the adult cardiac stem cells have been isolated from myocardial tissue, and wherein said adult cardiac stem cells are lineage negative, c-kit positive, and express c-Met and/or IGF-IR. The composition is useful in treating damaged myocardium, e.g. in an infarction.
