<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve print quality while limiting an increase in print time. <P>SOLUTION: The printer has a chromatic nozzle array composed of K nozzles, an achromatic nozzle array composed of (n/K) nozzles (n is an integer of two or larger), and a control unit. In a color region including chromatic colors, the control unit forms a region of a predetermined width along the first direction of an image by m-times (m is an integer of two or larger and n or smaller) of image forming operation where the moving direction of a nozzle array is switched alternately between the going direction and the returning direction, i.e. one time of image forming operation where the moving direction of the nozzle array is a specific direction and both the chromatic nozzle array and the achromatic nozzle array are used and (m-1) times of image forming operation where only the chromatic nozzle array is used.
