<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic timepiece which includes a mechanism for detecting a hand position and which can avoid such an incident that power consumption significantly increases when hands are abnormally stopped. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic timepiece includes: hands which indicate and display the time; a stepping motor which step-drives the hands; drive control means which supplies a drive pulse to the stepping motor; hand-movement check means (S10 through S15) which checks whether the hands are moving; and stand-by control means (S17 through S22) which brings the timepiece into a stand-by state by temporarily suspending the drive pulse supplied by the drive control means when the hand-movement check means determines that the hands are stopped. The electronic timepiece is configured so as to restart the supply of the drive pulse by the drive control means and the check of the hand movement by the hand-movement check means after the stand-by control means cancels the stand-by state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
