<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately position a center of a work to a longitudinal axis (5) of an electric chuck for a machine tool and to continuously adjust an alignment through a machining process. <P>SOLUTION: At least one aligning device (11) supported on a base body (4) is provided to transversely shift from one of clamp jaws (6, 7 or 8) or two or more clamp jaws (6, 7, 8). Each aligning device (11) applies an adjustable axial force of vector (F<SB POS="POST">Z</SB>) which is directly applied to works (2, 2') to be clamped. Thus, a play (23) between an operating element (21) and the base body (4) is compensated.
