<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for determining the position and orientation of a catheter. <P>SOLUTION: A catheter 102 for performing a medical operation on an organic lumen includes: an elongated member 108; a medical operational element 112 located at a distal end of the elongated member 108; an electromagnetic field detector 114 located at the distal end; and a wiring for coupling the electromagnetic field detector 114 with a medical positioning system 106.
