<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covering material for stairs that shows excellent construction workability at low temperatures and hardly causes damages such as a crack. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet-like thermoplastic resin covering material for stairs that is attached to the surface of a stair structure part includes a tread attachment part 2 that is mainly bonded to a tread of the stair structure part, a riser attachment part 4 that is mainly bonded to a riser of the stair structure part, a band-shaped boundary part 6 that is between the tread attachment part 2 and the riser attachment part 4 and extends in one direction, and a nosing part 8. In the band-shaped boundary part 6, a plurality of linear compression parts 10 that extend in parallel to each other in a ruled line shape along the extending direction of the band-shaped boundary part 6 are formed on the side of the face that is arranged opposite to the stair structure part.
