<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for pumping a fluid that eliminate or at least substantially reduce defects in pumping systems and methods where conventional techniques are used. <P>SOLUTION: A system and a method for reducing the hold-up volume of a pump are provided. A system and a method for determining a home position for reducing the hold-up volume at a dispense pump 180 and/or a feed pump 150 are provided. The home position for diaphragms 160, 190 can be selected so that the volume of chambers 155, 185 at the dispense pump 180 and/or feed pump 150 contains sufficient fluid to perform the various steps of a dispense cycle while minimizing the hold-up volume.
