<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology which, even when a rise or fall of a signal edge gets blunted, can prevent the periphery of the edge from becoming blurred by a wide border. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing system of the present invention comprises means for secondary differentiating an input image signal per line and outputting the result as a contour enhancement signal; means for calculating for each pixel of the image signal which is defined as a pixel of interest a difference in pixel values between two first pixels on either side of the pixel of interest, the absolute value of which being defined as a first differential value; means for calculating a difference in pixel values between two second pixels positioned respectively on the opposite side to the pixel of interest for the two first pixels, the absolute value of which being defined as a second differential value; means for multiplying the second differential value by a first value less than 1; means for subtracting the result of this multiplication from the first differential value and outputting the result, with its lower bound limited to 0, as a coefficient of edge adjustment; means for multiplying the contour enhancement signal by the coefficient of edge adjustment to correct it; and means for adding a corrected contour enhancement signal to the image signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
