<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure diagnostic device for temperature sensor that efficiently diagnoses a failure. <P>SOLUTION: At the start (t2) of an internal combustion engine 1, when a thermal equilibrium condition is satisfied and a deviation between temperatures detected by at least two reference temperature sensors is a predetermined value or below, and a deviation between the temperatures detected by the reference temperature sensors and a temperature sensor to be subjected to failure diagnosis is large, it is determined that the temperature sensor to be subjected to failure diagnosis fails if temperatures detected by the reference temperature sensors are not lowered by more than predetermined temperature during a period until a predetermined period of time elapses after the internal combustion engine 1 is started. When each section of the internal combustion engine 1 is put in a thermal equilibrium state even if a predetermined time does not elapse after the internal combustion engine 1 is stopped, the failure of the temperature sensor to be subjected to the failure diagnosis is diagnosed.
