<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle position calculation system accurately detecting a position of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: An absolute position of a sign object taken by a photographing device is specified as a vehicle approximate position, and a distance of the sign object from a vehicle position when it is assumed that the sign object appears in a range of an image taken by the photographing device, is calculated for each of a plurality of different virtual appearance positions in a moving direction of the sign object in the taken image. Then, based on relationship between each of the plurality of different virtual appearance position and a position when the sign object actually appears in the taken image, the distance of the sign object from the vehicle position is calculated, and by using the distance, a relative position of the sign object from the vehicle position along a driving lane is calculated. On the basis of a relative position of the sign object from the vehicle position along the driving lane, and the absolute position allocated and registered beforehand for the sign object, the absolute position of the vehicle is calculated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
