Filterup of e.g. silicates or clay is carried out using as filtration auxiliaries cation active polyamines and/or polyamidoamines in the presence of guanidine derivs of general formula:- (where R1 is H, CN CONH2 or C(NH2)=NH; R2 or R4 is H, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or mononuclear aryl; R3 is H or opt. substd. amino gp bonded by alkylene which may be part of a heterocyclic ring and R4 or R2 is opt. substd. amine bonded by alkylene which may be part of a heterocyclic ring). The guanidine deriv. may be a condensation product of formaldehyde with cpds of formula (where R5 is H, CN or CONH2). |
