<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air valve that can prevent the occurrence of inability to close an air hole due to foreign matter being caught. <P>SOLUTION: The air valve 11 is arranged in a rising pipe 32 rising vertically from a pipe line 31, and the air valve 11 has a valve box 15 having a float guide 14, a valve body part 17 provided above the valve box 15, a float valve body 12 and a loosely moving valve body housed movably up and down in the float guide 14, and a strainer 19 arranged between the rising pipe 32 and the valve box 15. The strainer 19 has a holding pipe 19a arranged between the rising pipe 32 and the valve box 15, a filter 19c provided at a lower end of the holding pipe 19a, and a mounting flange 19b provided at an upper end of the holding pipe 19a.
